Sindhu aims for Gold at Tokyo Olympics

P.V. Sindhu said her next target is winning the Gold Medal at Tokyo Olympics to take place at Japan next year.

Addressing media persons at Hotel Radisson Blu Plaza here yesterday, Sindhu, who was in city to inaugurate Dasara Sports and Yuva Dasara, said winning the Gold Medal at Tokyo Olympics was a real challenge for her.

“I will work hard for that and would love to see myself change the colour of my medal at Tokyo Olympics. There is still a vacant space in my cabinet for that gold,” she said.

Pointing out that every match she plays for gaining entry to Olympics was vital, Sindhu said that right now she was preparing for Paris and Denmark Badminton Championships to take place shortly.

Maintaining that both men and women badminton players of the country are doing well, Sindhu expressed the hope that the country becomes a global badminton power shortly.

Stressing on the need for parents from rural parts to support their children to take up sports, Sindhu observed that every school must have sports ground, where children can unearth their sporting talent.

Noting that the Centre is promoting sports through its ‘Khelo India’ initiative, Sindhu replying to a question said that she has no plans of setting up a Badminton Academy right now.
