Mysuru: Vid. L. Ramasesha (72), father of playback singer Vijay Prakash and a resident of Bogadi AIISH Layout in city, passed away this morning.
He leaves behind his wife R. Lopamudra, sons Phaneendra Kumar and Vijay Prakash, daughters-in-law Nagashree and Mahathi, grandchildren Kavya and Pranav. Last rites will be performed at the foot of Chamundi Hill on Tuesday (Apr.9).
Profile: Most celebrated Karnatak classical Vocalist of Mysuru, Vid. Ramasesha’s musical journey started at the age of 10 into the field of Keertana and Karnatak vocal singing.
Born in a family of legendary artistes, his father Harikatha Vidwan Karnataka Kala Tilaka L. Lakshmipathi Bagavathar, music came naturally to him. With a profound and mellifluous voice, he added grandeur to Bharatanatyam concerts of some of the legendary dancers.
With clear and crisp diction, immense command on the laya, literature and soulful singing, any composition he sang made an unparalleled impact on the connoisseur. He performed extensively in India and abroad.
Vid. Ramasesha was the recipient of ‘Gana Kala Kasturi’ title given by Karnataka Ganakala Parishat, Bengaluru and ‘Karnataka Kalashree’ award.
Apart from Vid. Ramasesha, his wife Lopamudra is also a vocalist, both of his sons and daughters-in-law are also into the field of music, dance and theatre.
