Sir MV’s contribution to the society is immense: Ex-ISRO Chief

Mysuru: Maintaining that Sir M. Visvesvaraya’s contribution to the society was much beyond the awards that he got during his lifetime, former ISRO Chief A.S. Kiran Kumar has said that Sir MV was the greatest engineer of the country.

He was speaking at Sir MV jayanti celebration organised by the Mysuru Chapter of the Institution of Engineers (India) at the Institution premises on JLB Road here yesterday.

Noting that the British Government and several countries of the world have conferred national honours on Bharat Ratna Sir MV, Kiran Kumar said that no award can match the contribution of Sir MV to mankind.

Noting that India’s foundation lied on scientific thoughts since early ages, he said that however, India lost its way midway, due to attacks by foreigners. However, India has regained its strength post-independence though scientific innovations and it was important that youth should take forward on innovations and discoveries.

Pointing out that India is now being considered as a global economic power, Kiran Kumar observed that India may become the third biggest global economic power shortly as the country is rapidly progressing with Science and Technology.

Stating that Sir MV was the biggest example of our technical ability, he said that the great engineer should be the model for younger generation.

City’s renowned engineers, technocrats and scientists namely N.G. Harikrishna, Dr. Naveen Rastogi, A. Ramakrishna, Prof. S.K. Prasad, Anitha Venkatesh, Nagesh Puttaswamy, Dr. Mohan Kumar and G.B. Muralidhar were felicitated on the occasion.
