Six achievers from theatre to be felicitated tomorrow

Mysore/Mysuru: Bengaluru-based Ranga Ratnakara Professional Theatre is organising a function at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Ramakrishnanagar here tomorrow (Nov. 24) to felicitate six giants of Kannada Theatre for their achievements in the field.

Release of books, cassettes and Rangageethe have also been organised the occasion. 

This was disclosed by Secretary of Ranga Ratnakara  H.S. Govindagowda at a press conference held at Pathrakarthara Bhavan in city  yesterday.

Senior writer Huragalawadi Lakshminarasimha Shastry will inaugurate the function at 4 pm. Sri Ilai Alwar Swamiji of Melukote’s Vangeepura Mutt will grace the occasion. Veteran theatre person Prof. H.S. Umesh will preside.

M.S. Venkataram, Indiramma, D. Ramu, Prof. A.V. Surya Narayanaswamy, Kiragasur Rajappa and Chowdappa Das will be felicitated on the occasion.

Apart from this, senior artiste from the famous Gubbi Company N. Shanthamma will                                    be honoured.

Later, Ranga Sangeetha Gayana (songs from Kannada theatre) will  be rendered.

The book ‘Rangabhoomi’, a collection of selected articles published in Rangabhoomi monthly magazine, during the period 1925 to 1938, will be released to mark the occasion. This book of 450 pages will be released by Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture Department Dr. M.D. Sudarshan.

In addition, ‘Vishnuleela,’ a book written by Nanjangud Srikantashastri will be released by Huragalawadi Lakshminarasimha Shastry and two other books written by Bellave Narahari Shastry ‘Srikrishana Garudi’ and ‘Mahatma Kabira Dasa’ will be released by Prof. A.V. Suryanarayanaswamy along with a cassette of Kannada theatre songs.

Apart from this, two more books ‘Shivakumara’ and ‘Natakaratna T.S. Doreswamy (Biography)’ will also be released by retired Director of Prasaranga K.T. Veerappa.
