Six arrested for hunting Sambar at reserve forest

150 kg meat, Single Barrel gun, cartridges, knives, vehicles seized

Gonikoppal:  Kodagu Police have arrested six persons on charges of hunting a Sambar at a Reserve Forest and transporting the meat. The Cops have seized about 150 kg of the poached animal meat, a single barrel gun, live cartridges, knives and two vehicles from  the accused.

The arrested are 31-year-old K.B. Siddique, M.H. Sameer and 32-year-old A.M. Sameer of Begur village, 40-year-old K.A. Mohammed, 49-year-old K.A. Yusuf and 40-year-old K.A. Ismail of Kunjila village.

On Saturday at about 3 am, Kodagu Crime Investigation Bureau (KCIB) staff was checking vehicles at Irupu Road junction on Kutta Road, where they intercepted the vehicle during which the crime came to light.

The accused, who had entered the reserve forest in Kutta limits illegally, had also shot the Sambar and were transporting the meat when they were caught.

KCIB Inspector K. Nagesh and staff K.S. Anil Kumar, B.L. Yogesh, K.R. Vasanth, M.N. Niranjan, Shashikumar and others took part in the operation. A case has been registered at Kutta Police Station in this regard.

Superintendent of Police Dr. Suman D. Pennekar has announced a cash prize of Rs.10,000 to the Police team.
