Six arrested for plotting to kill RSS activists

Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough, the Kalasipalya Police have arrested six Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) activists for plotting to kill RSS members. The arrested persons had attacked Varun Bhopala – 34, a resident of Sarakki in J.P. Nagar, while he was on his way to his father’s shop near JC Road after attending a pro-CAA event organised by the RSS and other pro-Hindu organisations. The attack happened on Dec. 22, 2019.

Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said the arrested are 33-year-old  Irfan alias Mohammed Irfan, 46-year-old Syed Akbar alias Mechanic Akbar, 30-year-old Syed Siddiq Akbar, 27-year-old Akbar Basha, 28-year-old Sanaulla Sharif and 39-year-old Sadiq UL Ameen, all residents of K.G. Halli.

The rally was addressed by Bengaluru South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya and Yuva Brigade founder and BJP supporter Chakravarthy Sulibele. But the Police Commissioner did not explicitly name the duo as targets and only said they had come to target “Hindu leaders at the venue”.

Rao said that the arrested wanted to attack and kill the leaders who took part in the pro-CAA event. “They initially pelted seven stones to scatter the crowd so that they can attack the leaders, but they failed. Later, they saw Varun walking out of the crowd wearing a saffron shirt. So the arrested followed him and attacked him with lethal weapons. Assuming he is dead, the gang fled on their bikes towards Bidadi. The SDPI activists were funded to create a disturbance and kill Hindu organisation leaders,’’ Rao said.
