April 9, 2019

Bharathinagar: With election campaign reaching a boiling point ahead of Lok Sabha polls scheduled on Apr.18 for Mandya Lok Sabha constituency, as many as six persons were injured when the clash occurred between Janata Dal (Secular) workers and supporters of Independent candidate Sumalatha Ambarish over trivial issue of conducting campaign  for their party candidates at Gurudevarahalli village near Bharathinagar in Maddur taluk of Mandya district on Sunday.

The injured have been identified as JD(S) workers Karthik, Papanna and Anilkumar and other three injured are supporters of Sumalatha — Shivanna, Ravi and Basavaraju. The injured were rushed to K.M. Doddi Government Hospital.

The clash took place when the supporters of Sumalatha Ambarish were waiting to receive their candidate near Kodi Circle to conduct the campaign in their village.

It is alleged that JD(S) supporters, who arrived on a speeding bike with horn sound, picked up a fight with Sumalatha’s supporters resulting in verbal duel and clash.  On receipt of information, Sub-Inspecor Ayyanagowda visited the spot, dispersed the mob and brought the situation under control.
