Nanjangud: Yuva Brigade’s “Kapila Kare” campaign, a large-scale cleaning drive of the sacred Kapila River in Nanjangud, drew strong support from several organisations and hundreds of youth volunteers. The river-cleaning initiative, which began on Friday, concluded on Sunday.
Over the three days, volunteers from Yuva Brigade, the Srikanteshwara Boat Association, Dharmasthala volunteers, students of NIE College, Mysuru, Rotary members and youths from Kempegowda Layout cleaned the Kapila riverbank near the renowned Srikanteshwaraswamy Temple in Nanjangud, popularly known as Dakshina Kashi.
On Sunday, a large number of volunteers removed waste dumped in the River, including discarded clothes, earthen pots, malas, deity photographs, plastic covers and other puja materials.

Nearly six truckloads of waste were cleared, helping restore the river’s clean and smooth flow. Volunteers also appealed to devotees to refrain from disposing of clothes and puja waste in the river, stressing the need for responsible practices and environmental awareness.
The Nanjangud City Municipal Council supported the drive by providing trucks and an earth mover for waste disposal, while the Srikanteshwara Temple arranged meals for the volunteers, which were served as prasada at the riverbank.

State Yuva Brigade Convener Chandrashekhar, Nanjangud Taluk Yuva Brigade Convener Chandan, along with Sunil, Girish, Ravishastri, Ravi, Mahadev, Pavan, Soori, Prajwal, Charan, Arjun, and Shashank, participated in the drive.

Members of the Srikanteshwara Boat Association, including Suresh, Rangaswamy Subbanna and Chandru Srikanta, Dharmaraj from Dharmasthala, Rotary member Muruli, Raghavendra from Kempegowda Layout and NIE students Naik, Sanjan, Pavan, Ramith and Yana Seethamma were also present among the hundreds of volunteers.
