January 6, 2026

Bharathinagar: A man suspected to have ended his life by hanging self about six to seven months ago and his remains in the form of a skeleton was found hanging in his house at Doddarasinakere village in Mandya district yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Mahadevaswamy alias Boti Mahadeva (45), a resident of the village, who was running a roadside hotel on K.M. Doddi Street.

Mahadevaswamy, who had rented a house belonging to Chikkamayigaiah in the village, was residing at the house and it is learnt that he had huge debts, following which he had gone missing. His wife Pavithra, after searching for him, had later shifted to Bengaluru with her children and was working at a private factory to take care of her children.

Chikkamayigaiah’s wife Geetha, who had given the house on rent, had asked Mahadevaswamy’s brother Ravi to get the house vacated. As Mahadevaswamy had gone missing, Ravi had requested Geetha to give some time to vacate the house. But Geetha, who had waived off the balance rent, told Ravi to vacate the house as she had to get the house painted in view of Yelluramma Devi village fair in February.

Following the request from Geetha, Ravi went to the rented house to clear the things but found the house latched from inside. He then brought a crowbar and other metal equipment and forcibly opened the door, only to find Mahadevaswamy’s skeleton hanging behind the door, it is learnt.

No one in the village had seen Mahadevaswamy ever since he went missing and Ravi told the Cops that Mahadevaswamy may have entered the house during night and may have hanged himself.

K.M. Doddi Police, who informed Mahadevaswamy’s wife Pavithra about the skeleton, shifted the same to MIMS Hospital in Mandya, where post-mortem was conducted and the skeleton was handed over to the family members.

K.M. Doddi Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
