Mysore/Mysuru: Centre for Disaster Management, Administrative Training Institute (ATI), Mysuru and National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Delhi, jointly held a 5-day “Training of Trainers on Child Centric Disaster Risk Reduction” in city.
In all, 52 officers comprising District Protection Officers, CDPOs, Social Welfare Officers, Medical Officers, School and hostel authorities participated in this programme from June 6.
Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar, IAS, Joint Director (Trg), ATI, spoke on the responsibilities of officers in planning and implementation of DM plans with specific focus on child safety.
Dr. Kumar Raka, Programme Officer, CCDRR, NIDM, highlighted the need for child centric disaster safety and the role of NIDM in the area of capacity building and training for CCDRR. He presented the nationwide data on the sufferings of the children in different age groups due to various disasters
Dr. Ashok Sanganal, Head, CDM, ATI, emphasised on the implementation of child centric disaster risk reduction strategies and need for protection of children against drowning in water bodies illustrating with cases in Karnataka and the guidelines.
Training module included CCDRR concepts, rights of children, first-aid and management of injuries to children in disasters and so on. Officers have visited Government School in Metagalli and carried out hazard, risk assessment and prepared action plan for implementation.
A.J. Srivalli, Deputy Director (Tng), asked the officers to work carefully both as trainers and implementers of the knowledge and skills acquired in this training. Ranjan Kumar, CCDRR, NIDM, Dr. Balu, CCDRR, NIDM, Dr. M. Dileep Kumar, Communication Officer, co-coordinated the programme.
