Skill Development Training: District targets to enrol 25,000 youth

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep has directed the district and taluk level officials to see that they reach a target of enrolling 25,000 youth by June 12 for skill development training.

He was speaking on Kaushalya Karnataka Abhinaya organised as part of progress review meeting in his office here on Friday, in which the district and taluk officials participated.

Already directions have been given to various Departments to enrol particular number of candidates. Accordingly, before June 12, 25,000 candidates should be enrolled.

The officials should strive hard to achieve the target in their respective departments and a review meeting in this regard will be held on June 13, he said.

Earlier, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P. Shivashanker said, this Abhiyan was inaugurated on May 15 and all the departments have been combined and brought under the Abhiyan. In the light of this the Government has created a separate department called “Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood.”

Nearly 529 different training will be imparted under this scheme. A demand survey in this regard has already begun, he said.

Mysuru placed 29th: In the demand survey conducted between May 15 and 31 only 2886 people enrolled.

However, target during this period was to enrol 21,000 people. This has resulted in the district being placed at 29th position, said Shivashanker.

The training that is imparted to the candidates should be of international standards and there should be a uniform syllabus and certification and other criteria drawn within a framework.

Right from illiterates to people who have completed post graduation can enrol. Those having Aadhaar card and in the age group of 18 to 35 years are eligible to enrol under this scheme.
