Dubai-based legal consultant in an interactive session held at Maharani’s Science College

Mysuru: Dubai-based legal consultant Geethalakshmi Ramachandran emphasised that individuals with subject-matter expertise have immense opportunities abroad.

“Today’s corporate world offers a plethora of opportunities for women. But only for those equipped with the right skills. Acquire the necessary expertise, and the opportunities will follow,” she advised.

Geethalakshmi was speaking at a special lecture and interactive session on ‘Legal Language Application and Do’s and Don’ts in Social Media in the Present Scenario’, organised by the Department of English, Maharani’s Science College For Women, JLB Road, Mysuru, yesterday.

Geethalakshmi Ramachandran is the Managing Counsel of Associated Business Attorneys, Legal Consultants, Dubai, catering to a wide range of corporate clients, operating out of Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Keeping the young aspiring girl students captivated, Geethalakshmi began by narrating her humble journey — from graduating at Sarada Vilas Law College, Mysuru, to overcoming numerous personal, physical and medical challenges that never deterred her determination to reach her goals in the legal field.

In recent years, private corporate firms have outpaced Government institutions in creating career avenues, particularly in the legal domain. Encouraging students to pursue legal studies, Geethalakshmi stressed that legal awareness empowers women both personally and socially.

She urged students to familiarise themselves with emerging legal fields such as internet law, cloud law, data protection law and artificial intelligence law. “This knowledge should be acquired not only in your mother tongue but also in English and other languages,” she recommended.

“Language evolves with technology — and so do its challenges,” she cautioned. “While technology can drive progress, one must remain vigilant about its risks.” Highlighting the importance of self-confidence, perseverance and hard work, she reminded students that success naturally follows these qualities.

College Principal Prof. M. Abdul Rahiman presided over the event, urging women to develop legal awareness in today’s challenging times. “Without it, facing society will become increasingly difficult,” he warned.

The programme also featured the felicitation of senior faculty member Dr. H.S. Parashivamurthy. Dr. N. Shobhalatha welcomed, Prof. H.S. Ranganath proposed the vote of thanks and Prof. Dinesh H.R. introduced the guests. The session was moderated by the Head of the English Department, Govindaraju.
