Solar powered con: CCB takes over investigation

Mysore/Mysuru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) has taken over the investigation into the Solar Plant scam where the rich and the influential are enticed into investing in non-existent Solar Power projects.

Scamsters have been operating in Mysuru and have duped many people including doctors, industrialists and entrepreneurs by promising good returns.

The fraudsters ask the moneyed class to invest in Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) that is meant to install Grid-connected Solar Power Plants and they are made to believe that the project belongs to Central Government. Shell companies are floated and bank accounts are creatively created so that the firms look like a Government enterprise.

It is believed that the conmen have looted at least Rs. 27 crore in Mysuru and some of the victims have approached Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime and traffic) Geetha Prasanna with a petition to bring the fraud network to book.

Based on the petition, the DCP has handed over the investigation to CCB as the case might have inter-district ramifications.

CCB ACP Ashwathnarayan told Star of Mysore that the investigations have been handed over to the CCB and the veracity of the petition will be probed. “We will summon the persons who have been mentioned as accused in the petition and also check the documents relating to the financial transaction. We will dig deep into the case and report to the DCP about the actual goings-on between the accused and the petitioner,” he said.
