Star of Mysore is a Dhruva Thare (Pole Star). From New York, I along with my wife and children convey our best wishes to SOM on its 40th anniversary celebrations.
In reality, this evening newspaper of Mysuru is like a Dhruva Thare. As in every evening it comes out in the blue sky and delights the sky-watchers all over the world with its bright radiance; so is Star of Mysore for the people of Mysuru and surrounding districts.
And K.B. Ganapathy, Editor-in-Chief of Star of Mysore, is like Dhruva. The newspaper has such hidden features, it makes the readers addicted — when evening comes, even on a holiday, the reader will look for the paper outside his doorstep.
I came in contact with Ganapathy in the year 1991 after getting transferred from Hindustan Paper Corporation’s head office in Kolkata to Mandya National Paper Mills in Belagola. He used to publish news about the paper mill, its losses and problems. And sometimes he had talked to me over phone to know the facts.
Star of Mysore was a popular newspaper at that time and soon we became regular subscribers. And now we are so addicted that until we see the newspaper we feel as if something is pending. Same feeling when we are in America also. Now we are in New York, time difference is 10-and-a-half hours behind. After waking up in the morning, my wife and I open Star of Mysore Webpage and read Mysuru news on our smartphones.
