South Zone Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho: University of Mysore wins title

The men’s kho-kho team of University of Mysore (UoM) which won the title in the South Zone Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho Championship (2017-18) conducted by the UoM at the University Grounds in city yesterday.

University of Mysore (UoM) with three-wins from three games (six points) in the league matches, maintained a clean slate in the league stage and won the title in the South Zone Men’s Inter-University Kho-Kho Championship 2017-18, conducted by the UoM at the University Grounds here yesterday.

In the final league match, UoM got better of Davangere University 19-13 (by six points). Pavan Kumar of UoM dodged for 3min.20s and scored 1 point, while captain Sudharshan played 4min.10s and scored 8 points.

Defending champion, Mangalore Varsity emerged runners-up with 4 points (2 wins & a loss). In their final league match, Mangalore University beat University of Calicut 16-10 (by 6 points).

University of Calicut finished third with 2 points (one win & 2 loss). Davangere finished fourth. All the four teams qualified for the All India Inter-University Men’s Kho-Kho Championship 2017-18 to be held at UoM from Jan.22 to 24.

The prizes were given to the winners by Prof. C. Basavaraju, In-charge VC, UoM. M.L. Gopinath, Ekalavya Awardee in Kho-Kho was one of the guests. The medal winning kho-kho teams of the UoM from the year 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002 were felicitated on the occasion.

Dr. P. Krishniah, In-charge Director, Dept. of Physical Education, UoM, was also present on the occasion.

Final Placings — League 1: UoM (6 points), 2. Mangalore University (4 points), 3. University of Calicut (2 points) and 4. Davangere University (Nil).

Results — League: UoM bt Davangere University 19-13 (by 6 point), Mangalore University bt University of Calicut 16-10 (by 6 points), UoM bt University of Calicut 11-10 (one point & 5 min. to spare), Mangalore University bt Davangere University 11-10 (by 1 point & 5min.40s to spare).
