The Gandabherunda motif, first documented in hieroglyphic etchings at Mohenjo-Daro, symbolises strength and power. The motif was officially established as the ‘Order of the Gandabherunda’ by Maharaja Chamarajendra Wadiyar X in 1892.
Over centuries, dynasties such as the Chalukyas, Hoysalas, Rayas, Kadambas and Keladi Nayakas incorporated this emblem in their insignia. Today, it proudly serves as Karnataka’s official State emblem.
R.G. Singh, also known as Gyani, is celebrated for his extensive contributions to traditional Indian arts. His expertise spans Mysore paintings, traditional Indian board games and cultural exhibitions like ‘Bombe Mane’ and ‘Kreedaa Kaushalya.
