Mysore/Mysuru: Under the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, Cauvery Handlooms, Bengaluru and the Department of Handloom, Textile and Commerce, Government of Karnataka, JSS Mahavidyapeetha has organised a Special Handloom Expo Samskruthi-Hathkargha-2023 from Sept. 22 to Oct. 6 at JSS Mysore Urban Haat in Hebbal.
Announcing this at a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan in city yesterday, JSS Mahavidyapeetha Publications Wing Director Prof. Morabada Mallikarjuna said that more than 75 weavers and Weavers’ Societies from all over India, including National and State awardees will be exhibiting and selling their traditional and handloom products at the 15-day expo.
District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa will inaugurate the expo tomorrow at 4 pm in the presence of Suttur Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji. The expo will be open from 10.30 am to 9 pm on all days. There is no entrance and parking fee for visitors to the expo.
The expo features Silk Sarees, Molakalmur Sarees, Ilakal, Kasuthi Sarees of Karnataka, Kanjivaram Silk Sarees from Tamil Nadu, Tussar Silk Sarees from Jharkhand & Bihar, Banarasi Silk Sarees, Chicken Embroidery, Duppatta from Uttar Pradesh, Chandheri & Maheshwari Sarees from Madhya Pradesh, Gadwal Silk, Ikkath, Kalmkari Sarees from Andhra Pradesh, Sambalpuri, Bomkayi Sarees of Odisha, Phulkari/ Patiyala Suits from Panjab, Tassur Silk Sarees, Kantha Stitch Sarees from West Bengal and Dress Materials, Boutique Sarees, Kashmir Handlooms, Rajasthan Embroidery, Gujarat Dress, Vegetable Prints Dress Materials and many more.
A 20% discount will be available on all handloom products. City bus facility is arranged from bus stand (Bus No. 117). Shivananjaswamy, Project Officer, Janardhana, Deputy Director, Department of Handloom & Textile, Mysuru and A. Rakesh Rai of Urban Haat, were present.
