The State-level Yoga Contest, organised by Yoga Dasara Sub-Committee as part of Dasara celebrations, at P. Kalinga Rao Auditorium in Dasara Exhibition Grounds here yesterday, saw specially-abled children and persons exhibiting their skills.
The performance by children from Ramakrishnagar’s Neerekshe Special School and Jnanasindhu Residential School for Visually Challenged at Hole Alur in Gadag drew huge applause from the crowd. The day-long event saw over 800 Yoga practitioners from across the State taking part in the contest held separately for men and women under nine categories.
Specially abled 67-year-old yoga practitioner Shyamasundar Rao of Basaveshwaranagar in Bengaluru stunned the audience with his performance.
There were three prizes and three consolation prizes in each of the nine categories, with the winner of first prize getting Rs.2,000, second prize Rs.1,500 and third prize Rs.1,000.
The event was inaugurated by Ramakrishnanagar’s Bharatiya Samskurti Vidyakendra’s yogacharya Prof. K. Keshavamurthy.
Yoga Dasara Sub-Committee office-bearers K. Ramya and Dr. B.S. Seethalakshmi, Mysuru Yoga Okkoota President B.P. Murthy, Mysuru Yoga Sports Foundation’s P.N. Ganesh Kumar and other were present.

Venkatesh, 3rd – Poojara Huchhappa; 35 to 45 years: 1st – Swami Mallikarjunaiah, 2nd – Jagadish, 3rd – R. Hemanth; 45 to 60 years: 1st – Lingesh, 2nd – Suresh Kumar, 3rd – A. Pandu; Above 60 years: 1st – Monappa Poojary, 2nd – Veerappa Tadapatri, 3rd – B.R. Gopal Raju.
