Speed thrills, but kills…

Sir,

It is unfortunate that our city lost three youngsters in a heart-rending road accident that occurred near Dattagalli on Outer Ring Road recently. Most probably it might have resulted due to over-speeding and the youth behind the steering might have forgot the saying that ‘speed thrills, but kills.’

The parents of two deceased youth expressed their grief and shock about the death of their sons. Besides this, they should have cautioned the present day youth to learn a lesson for driving at uncontrollable speed, which is not safe, from this incident.

This incident also reveals another important rule of wearing seat belts even by the persons sitting in the rear seats. As three other occupants of the rear seats were not wearing seat belts, they were thrown out of the car as the rear door got detached when the car toppled. In Australia, it is the responsibility of the driver to ensure that all the occupants wear the seat belt and he will be fined if anyone is found not wearing it. It also attracts demerit points for the driver.

Drivers especially youth need to learn a lesson from this incident that happened within the city limits and they should remember that there is no boundary and time for road accidents.
