SPVGMC Trust’s 56th Heritage Music Festival from Aug. 25 to Sept. 3

Sri Prasanna Vidya Ganapathi Mandali Charitable (SPVGMC) Trust, 8th Cross, V.V. Mohalla, Mysuru, which has been organising music concerts during the Ganesha Festival from the past 55 years, popularly known as 8th Cross Ganesha, is hosting its 56th Heritage Music Festival from Aug. 25 to Sept. 3 everyday from 6.45 pm onwards.

All the maestros of both Hindustani and Karnatak Music, to name a few N. Rajam, Hariprasad Chourasia, Gangubai Hangal, Rajeev Taranath, T.R. Mahalingam, M.S. Gopalakrishnan, D.K.Jayaraman etc., have performed here.

City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao will inaugurate the Music Festival at 6 pm tomorrow. Kannada and Culture Director N. Vishu Kumar will be the chief guest. SPVGMC  Trust President R. Vasudeva Murthy will preside.

The programme list of this year’s Ganesha Festival concerts is as follows:

Aug. 25: Bansuri recital by Pt. Ronu Majumdar; Ustad Durgaprasad Majumdar – Pakhwaj and Ustad Prithviraj Mishra- Tabla.

Aug. 26: Vocal Duet by Vid. Krishna Mohan and Vid. Ramkumar Mohan, accompanied by Vid. B. Ananthakrishnan on Violin, Vid. Trichur R. Mohan on Mridanga and Vid. D.V. Venkatasubramaniam on Ghata.

Aug. 27 (10 am): Sri Sathyanarayana Puja; 6.45 pm: Vocal recital by Vid. Vijay Siva, accompanied by Vid Prabhath Gokhale – Pramod Gokhale (Vocal support), Vid. Trivandrum Sampath (Violin), Vid. N.C. Bharadwaj (Mridanga), Vid. Vyasa Vittala (Khanjeera).

Aug. 28: Vocal recital by Vidu. Dr. Pantula Rama, accompanied by Vid. Mutnery Srinivas Narasimha Murthy on Violin, Vid. Tumkur B. Ravishankar on Mridanga and Vid. Vyasa Vittala on Khanjeera.

Aug. 29: Hindustani Vocal recital by Pt. Fayaz Khan, accompanied by Pt. Deepak Marathe on Harmonium and Ustad Ravindra Yavagal on Tabla.

Aug. 30: Vocal recital by Vid. Sikkil Gurucharan, accompanied by Vid. Mathur Srinidhi on Violin, Padma Vibhushan Vid. Umayalapuram K. Sivaraman on Mridanga, Vid. Giridhar Udupa  on Ghata.

Aug. 31: Vocal recital by Vid. Saket Raman, accompanied by Vid. Vittal Rangan on Violin, Padma Vibhushan Vid. Umayalapuram K. Sivaraman on Mridanga, Vid. Guruprasanna  on Khanjeera.

Sept. 1: Sarod recital by Pt. Rajeev Taranath accompanied by Ustad Udayraj Karpur on Tabla.

Sept. 2: Vocal recital by Vid. T.M. Krishna, accompanied by Vidu. Sangeetha Sivakumar (Vocal support), Vid. R.K. Shriram Kumar on Violin, Vid. V.V. Ramanamurthy on Mridanga and Vid. Guruprasanna on Khanjeera.

Sept. 3: Chitraveena recital by Vid. Ravi Kiran, accompanied by Vid. Vittal Rangan on Violin, Vid. V.V. Ramanamurthy on Mridanga and Vid. Arun Kumar on Rhythm Pad.

Apart from the above concerts, from Aug. 26 to Sept. 3 between 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm, there will be a Gamaka Vachana programme on ‘Kumaravyasa Bharata; On Sept. 3, Ganapatha – Subramanya – Durga and Rudra Homa will be performed at 8 am by Vedic Scholars Challakere Brothers; Parayana, Poornahuti and Prasada at 12 noon.
