Bengaluru: Senior Advocate M. Sajan Poovayya and his wife advocate Sanjanthi Poovayya have donated Rs. 1 crore for an initiative to “assist a junior” advocate financially in these days of no income to them due to Coronavirus crisis.
While Sajan Poovayya is a Supreme Court Advocate, his wife in an Advocate in the Karnataka High Court. Both of them hail from Kodagu and belong to Meriyanda family.
Keeping in tune with the Bar’s traditions for seniors to support their juniors in all ways possible, the initiative aims to provide as much financial assistance as possible to junior advocates in need, across various Bar Associations.
To set the initiative rolling, Sajan and Sanjanthi are contributing an amount of Rs. 1 crore, out of which financial aid will be provided to junior advocates who need such assistance.
Letters have also been addressed by Poovayya to the Supreme Court Bar Association, the Delhi High Court Bar Association, the Energy Bar Association, the Advocates Association Bangalore and the Coorg Bars, requesting them to provide details of junior advocates belonging to their respective Bars, who require financial assistance, so that the funds can be transferred to them directly.
Those junior advocates who need assistance have to furnish their names and addresses, enrolment number, Bar Association membership number, PAN Number, telephone / mobile number, email address and bank account for direct money transfer. Details may be emailed to: assistAjunior@gmail.com
Lauding the move, Bengaluru Bar Association President A.P. Ranganath said that the initiative taken by Sanjanthi and Sajan Poovayya would help junior advocates who are struggling to survive amidst the pandemic.
Sajan Poovayya is the son of noted advocate from Virajpet Meriyanda K. Poovaiah.
His brother Sanketh Poovaiah too is known for his social work and he has extended monetary help to victims of elephant attacks in Kodagu.
