Sri Lanka Open International Rating Chess Championship: Thejkumar wins title; Vijeendra finishes second

Mysuru-based IM M.S. Thejkumar (Rating 2481), representing India in the Sri Lanka Open International Rating Chess Championships 2017 at YMBA hall, Kurunegala near Colombo, won his final round match against Sri Lanka’s WFM Kodikara K.K.M Sachintha and won the title with 10 points from 10 rounds yesterday.

Another player from Mysuru lad Y.G. Vijayeendra after his drawn last round game against Rathnayake M.A.A.H finished a creditable second with 8.5 points from 10 rounds. Sri Lanka’s Ratnayake M.A.A.H secured the third place with 8 points.

IM M.S. Thejkumar has gained 7.4 ELO points with his performance in this tournament and took his points tally to 2488.4 and needs just 11.60 points to earn his GM title.

Thejkumar had wins over, Dissanayake DM. Liyanage LDS, Menuka Udara, Kumarawadu C S, CM Lasitha Subash, Rathnayake MAAH, Y.G. Vijayeendra, WFM Premanth Dinushki, Theekshana HGD and WFM Kodikara KKM Sanchintha.
