Sri Purandara and Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana event

Mysore/Mysuru: Surabhi Ganakala Mandira will be celebrating Sri Purandara and Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana on Feb. 17 and 18 at Sri Prasanna Parvathi Kalyana Mantapa in V.V. Mohalla here with various programmes.

On Feb. 17 from 3.30 pm onwards, a special feature of collective singing of Divyanama and Utsava Sampradaya kritis of Sri Thyagaraja (numbering about 90 compositions) by around 150 students of Surabhi Ganakala Mandira from Mysuru, Bengaluru and Hassan joined together, will be held.

These kritis are composed by Thyagaraja for the benefit of devotees who are not professional musicians but can sing with devotion. Besides, these are rarely sung in regular concerts, except a few.

On Feb. 18 from 8 am, Goshti Gayana of Purandara Navaratna and Thyagaraja Pancharatna kritis will be held by all the musicians of the city.

At 10.15 am, a book compiled by Dr. Sukanya Prabhakar will be released and senior violinist and guru H.K. Narasimhamurthy and artiste Shrimathi Shankar will be felicitated. Dr. Rama Bennur and B.S. Sridhara Raje Urs will be the chief guests.

This will be followed by a veena concert by Vidu. Dr. S.V. Sahana, supported by Vid. H.S. Sudheendra on mridanga and Vid. G.S. Ramanujan on ghata.
