Mysuru: Surabhi Gana Kala Mandira Charitable Trust, Mysuru, is celebrating its 32nd Sri Purandara – Thyagaraja Aradhana on Feb.16 and 17 at Sri Prasanna Parvathi Kalyana Mantapa on Kalidasa Road in V.V. Mohalla.
A day-long programme ‘Vaggeya Namana’ begins at 10.30 am on Feb.16. ‘Surabhi’ students pay their obeisance to different Vaggeyakaras like Uthukad Venkata Kavi, Muthuswamy Dikshitar, Muthiah Bhagavatar, Margadarshi Sheshaiangar and so on, by singing a few rare compositions, in different groups.
At 5 pm, there will be a Goshti Gayana of Sri Purandara Navaratna kritis. This will be followed by a special musical feature, ‘Hariyannarasida Vanitheyaru,’ based on the compositions of women-Haridasas at 6.30 pm.
This programme will be presided over by art patron K.V. Murthy. Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Chennappa will be the guest of honour.
On Feb.17, the programme starts with Goshti Gayana of Thyagaraja Pancharathna kritis by young and senior musicians of the city at 9 am.
Veteran musician Vidu. Pushpa Srinivasan will be conferred with the title ‘Gaana Surabhi’ at 10 am. This will be followed by a Grand Vocal Music Concert by the well-known Vidwan Saketh Raman of Chennai from 10.30 am to 1.30 pm.
He will be accompanied by Vidu. H.M. Smitha on violin, Vid. K.U. Jayachandra Rao on mridanga and Vid. Giridhara Udupa on ghata. For details, contact Mob: 94435-82045.
