Sri Sathya Sai Baba Higher Primary and High School excels

Mysuru: The very first batch of 25 students of Sri Sathya Sai Baba Higher Primary and High School, Jayalakshmipuram, Mysuru, who appeared for the 10th std. examination proved their mettle in the public exam. A total of 25 students appeared and 5 got distinctions, 16 first class and 4 secured second class.

Likitha, who was the school topper (91%), is the daughter of a watchman. She scored 79 out of 80 (external marks) in English. All the students did very well in English scoring high percentage though 80% of them come from families with no education.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba Higher Primary School was founded in 1959 by Sunandamma Narasimha Iyengar, Mysuru. She was an ardent Sai devotee and a freedom fighter. She started this school under Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba Makkala & Mahila Koota Trust to provide value-based quality education to the children of financially backward families. Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba laid the foundation stone of the school building on Sept. 15,1963. This was the very first educational institution of Baba and He called it His school and had said it would come up well with His Grace.

Until 2015 the school had classes only up to 7th standard. From 2015, each year one standard was added.

The school charges very little towards fees compared to other schools but provides free breakfast for the children. In addition to secular education, the students are taught Yoga, Veda Chanting, Bhajans, Meditation, Music and Dance. They are encouraged to place importance for Indian culture and human values.  The students have also excelled in sports and many competitions.

The teachers and the Principal of the school deserve all the credit for their endless efforts to guide the children blossom into responsible future leaders.
