Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha to observe Dikshitar’s Day

Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha Charitable Trust, Mysuru, will be observing Dikshitar’s Day on Nov. 4 at Sri Vidyabharathi Prarthana Mandira, Sri Chandramouleeshwara Temple premises, V.V. Mohalla, in city from 10 am.

Respected as one of the musical trinity, Saint Composer Sri Muthuswamy Dikshitar (1775-1835) was a great composer of Karnatak Classical Music, with 450 to 500 compositions to his credit. His compositions are widely sung by musicians, which stand for the beauty of each raga in entirety and poetic brilliance coupled with authentic vedic, tantric and other details. He was a pioneer in composing a few works in western musical scales also and experimented with violin, which was later popularised in Karnatak Music by his brother and disciples.

Ashwayuja Amavasya is the day he left for heavenly abode, which is celebrated by musicians and music lovers. Many senior musicians of the city will be participating in the event along with their disciples to pay tributes to the Saint Composer.

Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy, Vice-President, Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha, has in a press release requested music-lovers to attend the programme in large numbers.
