St. Philomena’s College gets new Principal

This is the first time in the history of the College, a lady has taken charge as the Principal

Dr. Ruth Shanthakumari, Associate Professor of Zoology, has been appointed as the new Principal of St. Philomena’s College (autonomous) with effect from Mar.1.

Most Rev. Dr. K.A. William, the Bishop of Mysore, announced the decision of Mysore Diocesan Educational  Society (MDES) on Feb. 28 during a function organised to felicitate the new Bishop of Mysore, bid farewell and felicitate the Bishop Emeritus of Mysore, Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Antony Vazhapilly and Prof. M. Krishnegowda, who demitted office as the Principal of  St. Philomena’s College on the same day.

Dr. Ruth Shanthakumari  is the 12th Principal of  St. Philomena’s College, since its inception in 1946.  Most of the Principals of the college have been priests. This is the first time in the history of the College, a lady has taken charge as the Principal.

Dr. Ruth has been teaching in the Department of Zoology since 1993 and has been actively involved in the College as Roosa Coordinator, IQAC Coordinator in NAAC accreditation. She has to her credit a major research project from UGC and a number of publications in reputed journals.

The new Bishop Most Rev. Dr. K.A. William, Bishop Emeritus, Most Rev. Dr. Thomas A. Vazhapilly, Rev. Dr. N.S. Marie Joseph, the Administrator of the College and Rev. Fr. Leslie Moras, the Rector Manager,  have wished her all the best in her new responsibility.
