St. Philos celebrates International Students Fest-2018

Mysuru: St. Philomena’s College celebrated International Students Fest-2018 recently in the College auditorium in Bannimantap. International students representing different countries entered the auditorium waving their national flags.

Prof. G. R. Janardhan, Department of Studies in Botany and Director of International Centre, University of Mysore, was the chief guest. In his address he said that St. Philomena’s College has a good number of foreign students and it has the highest number under University of Mysore.

He called upon the students to study well and complete their graduation without keeping any back papers. He promised all help to the International students from the University.

Dr. Sukanya, Head, Department of Journalism, expressed happiness towards the foreign students in her introductory speech and motivated them for their active participation in the talent programmes of the college and wished a wonderful stay in India.

Students from countries like Yemen, Tanzania, Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, Somalia also spoke about their respective countries and culture, wearing their ethnic dress. They performed their cultural dance with great fervour and patriotic zeal.

Mr. and Miss Philomena International 2018 competition was held on the occasion with Mali and Somalia being crowned as Mr. and Miss International 2018 respectively. Fr. Maria Xavier, Vice Rector, crowned Miss Philomena International while Prof. Janardhan honoured Mali with a sash.

Prof. Sanjay Nair, Vice Principal, proposed a vote of thanks. Many International students and staff members of the college were present on the occasion.
