Mysuru: St. Philomena’s College, Bannimantap, hosted a programme on “Cyber Crime Awareness and Hacking Exposed” at the college’s Indoor Stadium recently.
Organised jointly by the BCA, BSc-CS, BBA and IQAC Departments, the event aimed to educate undergraduate students about the pressing issues of cyber crime and digital security.
Sneha Raj, Assistant Commissioner of Police (CEN Wing), Mysuru City, who inaugurated the event, highlighted the vulnerabilities that individuals face in the digital age and urged attendees to exercise caution while navigating various social media platforms.
She further engaged the audience by presenting an awareness video, clarifying common doubts among students regarding cyber threats and outlining the modus operandi of cyber criminals, as well as methods to avoid falling victim to their schemes.
In the second session, D. Sharmila, Selection Grade Lecturer at Government Polytechnic, Srirangapatna, gave an insightful lecture titled “Hacking Exposed.” She elaborated on different hacking techniques, including ethical hacking, while emphasising the importance of understanding punitive measures to protect oneself from hackers.

Several dignitaries, including Administrator Rev. Fr. Gnana Pragasam, Assistant to Rector Rev. Fr. S. David Sagayaraj, Principal Dr. Ravi JD Saldanha, Vice-Principals M. Nagaraj Urs and Ronald Prakash Cutinha, IQAC Coordinator A. Thomas Gunaseelan, BCA HoD Gloriya Priyadarshini, BBA HoD Chandan Nandihal, IQAC Co-Coordinator Dr. V. Deepa, E. Manasa and Harshitha of BCA Department attended the programme which not only provided essential knowledge about cyber threats but also empowered students to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly.
