Mysore/Mysuru: Students of MMC&RI staged the play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ to the huge applause of the gathering at Platinum Jubilee Hall of MMC&RI at J.K. Grounds here on Nov. 6 evening.
The play, originally written by noted playwright William Shakespeare and translated to Kannada by poet K.S. Nissar Ahmed, was enacted by medicos, as part of the centenary year celebrations of MMC&RI.
Jeevan Kumar Heggodu directed the play, with theatre person Deepak Mysore handling the concept, choreography by Sagar S. Gumballi and S. Prajwal, with the assistance of K.R. Dhanush and supervision by S. Darshan Samarth and S. Shivakumar.
By staging the play, the medicos also proved their interest in art, literature, music and theatre, besides showing their love for Kannada.
Earlier, columnist B. Chandregowda, who inaugurated the play, said: “William Shakespeare whose plays centred on the people’s thoughts still hold relevance. Shakespeare focused on the feelings of the mind, that is precisely why his plays still remain popular since the time of its origin in 16th Century. Hence, he also remains a top playwright in the world.”
“Earlier, marriage was fixed by parents and now, even though the society is moving towards several reforms in this modern era, we still see couple in love done to death in the name of caste. The recent incident of a man killing his daughter in Kolar for loving a boy out of caste is one such horrific example. Though love marriage is still not easy in this caste-based society, it proves when the people marry going by their choice, setting aside caste and religion. Hence, Shakespeare wrote: ‘The people’s feelings is above all’,” said Chandregowda.
He also lauded the performance of medical students as a miracle which proves their interest in arts, literature, dance and theatre.
MMC&RI Dean Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, Student Welfare Officer Dr. Chandrashekar, MMC&RI Kannada Sangha President Dr. Ravindranath, theatre person Deepak Mysore, Shubha Jayaram, medical students Shivakumar, Abhishek and Chandan Reddy were present.
