State Government to merge SSLC and PU Boards

September 1, 2019

Bengaluru, Sept.1- After the merger of Banks, now it is the turn of Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) and Department of Pre-University Board to become a  single entity.

The single Board will come into effect from December this year, announced Primary and Secondary Education Minister Suresh Kumar, here yesterday.

With this, Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) and II PUC examinations will be conducted by the single Board from 2020.

Speaking to media persons, Suresh Kumar said that the matter was brought to his notice by the officials and a detailed discussion was held during which he felt that conducting examinations under a single Board would be beneficial.

Suresh Kumar also added that he was also studying the system in the other States where the both examinations are conducted under a common single Board and as per the new proposal both SSLC and II PUC examinations would be conducted by KSEEB.

It may be recalled that a proposal to merge KSEEB and PU Board was submitted to State Government at the time when MLA Tanveer Sait was the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education during 2017.

The previous Coalition Government had also instructed the officials to look into the possibility of merging the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination Board and the Pre-University Course (PUC) board to streamline the examination system in the State.

Tanveer Sait welcomes Government move

Former Minister and MLA Tanveer Sait welcomed the State Government’s decision to merge both the boards stating that it would help in conducting examination and evaluation under a single Board and also added it  will also bring about administrative changes.

He said that instead of having two Boards, merging them into one will improve efficiency.

“It was during my time as a Minister that a proposal to merge both the Boards was submitted to the State Government. Now, the proposal is being implemented without any changes.

This will help both the student community as well as the Department officials,” he added.
