State issues notification to form Kushalnagar Taluk

November 20, 2020

Kushalnagar: Bowing to the demand for a separate Cauvery Taluk with headquarters at Kushalnagar, the State Government has issued a notification to form Kushalnagar Taluk

The notification has been issued yesterday by V.T. Rajashree, Under Secretary to Government, Revenue Department under the powers conferred under Karnataka Land Revenue Act 1964. The notification will be in force for 30 days within which people can file objections, if any. If there are no objections, the notified places will be included in the new taluk.

The demand for a separate taluk has been growing over the years since residents find travelling 27km to Somwarpet to get their work done to be a waste of time. Many bandhs have been organised by Cauvery Taluk Horata Kendriya Samiti since the last two years demanding the formation of Cauvery Taluk with Kushalnagar as its headquarters.

Expressing happiness over the Government notification, Samiti President and former Zilla Panchayat Member V.P. Shashidhar told Star of Mysore this morning that the aspirations of people of Kushalnagar was being realised with the formation of the taluk. “We have been fighting for this since the last four years and since the last two years there has been intensified protests. Finally this is becoming a reality,” he said and added that a new taluk will enable ease of doing Government business.

According to the notification, the boundaries of the proposed Kushalnagar Taluk will include Mysuru Taluk of Mysuru District (East), Madikeri Taluk of Kodagu District (West), Somwarpet Taluk of Kodagu District (North) and Virajpet Taluk of Kodagu District (South).
