State-level Cross Country Championship in city

Helipad being readied at Oval Grounds in city this morning.

Mysuru: Mysore District Athletic Association (MDAA), in association with Physical Education Teachers Academy Trust, has organised 60th State-level Cross Country Championship 2025 near Lalitha Mahal helipad in city on Dec. 28 at 6.30 am. This was announced by MDAA President S. Somashekar at Pathrakarthara Bhavan in city on Monday.

Somashekar said, the winners of National-level and State-level Cross Country Races will be flagging off the race here, along with sponsors.

The matter of pride is, the race is being organised in the city after a gap of 11 years. Over 800 athletes from 31 districts are expected to take part in the race, that will be conducted by 150 technical officers.

The winners of the competition will be eligible to take part in the 60th National Cross Country Championship, to be held at Ranchi in Jharkand on Jan. 24, 2026.

Age Categories

Under-20: Boys (8 km) and girls (6 km). The participants should be born between Jan. 25, 2006 and Jan. 24, 2008).

U-18: Boys (6 km) and girls (4 km). The participants should be born between Jan. 25, 2008 and Jan. 24, 2010).

U-16: Boys (2 km) and girls (2 km). The participants should be born between Jan. 25, 2010 and Jan. 24, 2012).

The winners will be presented with cash prizes totalling Rs. 1 lakh, medals and certificates.

The food and accommodation will be provided for the participants from outside the district.

Run Against Drugs

A 4-km Awareness Run Against Drugs, for school and college students, has been organised on Dec. 28 at 9 am.

The run will be flagged off from Chamundi Vihar Stadium and will pass through Shantaveri Gopala Gowda Circle, Bhagwan Buddha Circle, T. Narasipur Road, CPWD Guest House Arch, Vidyanagar Police Quarters Road and conclude at the starting point.

T- shirt and medal will be given to 500 participants.

Prize distribution

After the race/ run is completed, stage programme will be held at Chamundi Vihar Stadium. Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwar, Chamaraja MLA K. Harishgowda, Chamundeshwari MLA G.T. Devegowda, Gundlupet MLA H.M. Ganesh Prasad, Director of Para Olympic Committee of India and first President of South Asia Para Sports Federation K.R. Sathyanarayan, International Cross Country Athlete H.N. Anand Kumar, President of Physical Education Teachers Academy Trust Dr. C. Krishna, Secretary of Karnataka State Athletics Association Rajavelu, Assistant Director of Department of Youth Empowerment & Sports (DYES) Bhaskar Nayak, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cycle Pure Agarbathi Suresh and Organising Secretary B. Srikanth will be present.
