State Sports Conference in city on Jan. 19: Dignitaries play Lagori to promote traditional game

Mysuru: To promote the traditional game of Lagori, a tournament was organised for dignitaries in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, Palace North Gate, in city this morning. Today’s event was a prelude to the Rajya Kreeda Sammelana (State Sports Conference) to be held at Chamundi Vihar Stadium in city on Jan. 19.

A total of 30 prominent persons were divided into four teams — Nalwadi team (led by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar), Mummadi (led by MLA T.S. Srivatsa), Chamaraja (led by MLA L. Nagendra) and Krishnaraja (led by Dr. Lakshmi Narasimhan of Manipal Hospital). Two matches were played in which Nalwadi and Chamaraja teams emerged victorious.

Vinayak C. Hegde of Infosys, noted Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. Ajay Hegde, actor-singer Shashidhar Kote, Srihari of GSS, Yogacharya Dr. P.N. Ganesh Kumar, Vasudev Bhat of Vijaya Vittala, Kamakshi Hospital Managing Trustee M. Mahesh Shenoy, Kiran Ranga of NR Group, Mysore Bar Association Joint Secretary & Kreeda Bharati State Convener C.K. Rudramurthy, Regional Convenor of Kreeda Bharati Chandrashekar Jagirdar, former Mayor Shivakumar, Journalist Ravi Pandavapura and others from various professions were part of the teams.

Kreeda Bharati President Dr. Y.S. Lakshmeesh, Secretary Mahendra Prasad & Joint Secretary Basavaraju, Sports Conference District Vice-President Charan S. Raj, District General Secretary M. Chetan & Joint Scretary M.E. Chetan were present.

The Sports Conference on Jan. 19 will also feature Lagori competition along with other games where school students and women will participate.
