State-wide survey of school drop-outs begins in District: DDPI

Survey to find out exact reasons for children staying away from school

Mysuru:  Deputy Director of Public Instructions (DDPI) Mamatha has said that a State-wide survey of school drop-outs has begun in all districts simultaneously from Nov. 14.

She said that the survey would help to find out the reasons for children dropping out of school. The government had issued a circular in this regard to conduct Makkala Grama Sabha to hold ward meeting besides collecting details of  children through door-to-door survey.

The Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Women and Child Welfare, Health, Labour and Education Departments have been conducting the survey jointly and the government has instructed to complete the survey before Dec.15 and submit the report.

Mamatha said that the department is conducting the survey with the help of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), Anganawadi teachers, other department teachers and officials.  

She said that a majority of children drop out of school while they reach class eight due to social and economic reasons. She added that the government had received reports that child marriage, untimely death of the parents, poverty, unemployment, and superstition as some of the major reasons for increase in school dropouts. However, this survey will help to find out the exact reasons for the cause, Mamatha added.
