1,558 complaints received from April to Dec. 2020 in State; 506 cases solved

Mysore/Mysuru: The Chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Women R. Pramila Naidu, who is on a tour of Mysuru District, heard grievances and received complaints from women at Jaladarshini Guest House here this morning.

Till 1.30 pm, the Commission Chairperson received two complaints. The first complaint was lodged by a woman with a small kid, seeking respite from harassment by her mother-in-law. In the second complaint, a woman lodged a complaint against her husband and sought the support of the Commission to get her alimony. Pramila Naidu assured the woman of extending support and get her the alimony.

Later, speaking to the media, Pramila said that from April to Dec.  2020, the Commission had received a total of 1,558 complaints out of which 506 have been solved and 1,052 cases were pending. Out of 1,558 complaints, 224 were from Mysuru, Mandya and Chamarajanagar districts regarding property and family disputes.

Continuing, she said that there were 386 family harassment cases, 52 dowry cases, 446 seeking protection, 58 pertaining to sexual harassment at work place and 426 suo moto cases besides stating that there were complaints against the Head of the Departments of Universities, abusing workers using foul languages at garment factories and property related complaints from elderly.

Pramila Naidu said that the Commission received 425 complaints during lockdown period (77 complaints by e-mail and 352 over phone) most of them from senior citizens seeking food as they could not go out. She further said that the groceries and other food articles were provided to them through local bodies.

Scientific Counselling: Pramila Naidu said that counselling of wife and husband is being done scientifically keeping the future and welfare of children in mind and added that the Police Department and the Commission were working like one family to solve the issues.

On the occasion, Ranjini, Advisor at Mahila Sahaya Vedike, located at the Family Court submitted a report that was sought by the Chairperson.
