Siddharamaiah to inaugurate on May 19
Mysore: Here is something for Kannada medium students to cheer about — the State’s first Kannada medium Science and Commerce Pre-University College is all set for inauguration at Ramakrishna Nagar in city.
Kannada Vikasa Shaikshanika Samajika Samskrutika Samsthe, which runs Nrupatunga Kannada School in city, is starting the Kannada medium PU College.
Speaking to press persons here on Saturday, Samsthe President and Social Activist P. Mallesh said that the college is set up with main intention to encourage Kannada medium students to take up Science and Commerce stream as majority of them do not prefer to study these streams due to lack of proficiency in English. Also, studying in mother tongue is said to be more effective, he added.
The medium of instruction of Science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Computer Science, will be in Kannada. Also, the students will be familiarised with English terms and there will be Functional English class too.
Retired Principal of D. Bhanumaiah’s College Dr. Bhadrappa S. Henley has been appointed as the Principal of the College and the College has the support of several academicians, retired and serving, who have agreed to teach at the College without any remuneration. The College, which is a three storey building, has well-equipped classrooms and fully-fledged laboratories including a computer lab with 40 computers.
The college has received enquiries from hundreds of students and about five students have already submitted the applications to join the courses, he said and added that College offers Science course at Rs.10,000 and Commerce Course at Rs.8,000 . In addition, the college offers free education for 10 students.
He further said that State PU Education Board has already decided to release translated textbooks for all Science subjects, except Computer Science to the market and College experts have taken up the translation of the computer text book to supply to students.
Inauguration
Former Chief Minister Siddharamaiah will inaugurate the new building on May 19 in the presence of Minister K.J. George, former Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa, BESCom MD C. Shikha, KPCC Member Mohan Kumar Kondajji, MLA Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah and others.
