Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep inspected the Rs.2 crore works taken up by the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) to stop the flow of sewage water into Kukkarahalli Lake.
The work on laying the 3,000 metre, 800 mm diameter pipe around the lake began in 2014 and it is nearing completion. The DC after inspecting the lake said that the work is almost complete.
“The lake is getting polluted because of the flow of sewage water from the nearby localities into the lake. Now, that the work is almost over this problem will be solved and the birds and animals will not be affected,” he said.
Asked about the death of Pelicans in the lake, he said that it is due to viral infection and samples have been sent to Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals (IAH&VB), Bengaluru.
“We are awaiting the report. There is no reason to panic, as many have not died. A few of the deaths are due to contamination in the water,” said Randeep.
MCC Superintending Engineer M.K. Bhaskar, Zone-4 Development Officer D.R. Nalina and other officials were present during the inspection.
