Sir,
This refers to letters of Maj. Gen. S.G. Vombatkere (retd.) (SOM dated Oct. 12) and R. Yadupathi Putty (SOM dated Oct. 15) regarding straightening of Hunsur Road near Jaladarshini Guest House.
The District Minister, who is also the Public Works Minister and who has given the green signal to this ill-conceived project at a huge cost of Rs. 12 crore, should know that Mysuru is no ordinary city. Every Mysurean is beholden to some distinct and joy-giving spots in this great city. One among them is this lovely, curvy, serene and indescribable avenue which, of course, adds value to the heritage area. A straightened road would most likely take away the charm from this area!
Earlier, it was Raja Marga, then putting a canopy to the steps of Chamundi Hill (which was thankfully abandoned), and now straightening of this Road. We, the citizens of Mysuru, the stakeholders of this magnificent city, do not want anyone to meddle, tinker and tamper with our ‘heritage’. It would be a good idea if ‘developmental issues’, especially of this kind are first deliberated and debated in the people’s court! Roads remain silent witnesses to accidents that happen because of recklessness, speeding and not following the traffic rules, of which there are too many in our country. Can we request the Minister to please stop this project?
