Street dog menace amid Dasara light dazzle

Sir,

Mysuru is all ready to be beautifully lit up for Dasara, attracting visitors and celebrating the grandeur of our city.

But behind the lights and celebrations, many residents and taxpayers are facing a serious everyday problem — the growing menace of stray dogs.

In some of the so-called posh localities of Mysuru (Vijayanagar 1st Stage, for example), residents are being terrorised by packs of street dogs roaming freely in the area. For people who step out early in the morning for their daily walks, this is no longer a matter of inconvenience — it is a matter of safety and peace of mind.

A city cannot be called truly liveable when its residents are afraid to walk on their  own streets.

We need a humane, systematic and sustainable solution to the street-dog problem and prompt action in areas where residents face repeated threats.

Dasara lights may illuminate our streets, but our streets also need to feel safe. Mysuru deserves both beauty and safety.
