Mysuru: A four-day awareness programme on eradication of child labour through jathas and street plays, organised jointly by District Administration, Labour Department, Anti-Child Labour Society and Rural Literacy and Health Programme (RLHP), was launched yesterday in front of Labour Department Office in Kuvempunagar here.
Launching the programme, Assistant Labour Commissioner A.C. Thammanna asked people to avoid employing children as domestic help and added that children should be allowed to continue in education.
A seven-member team of Child Helpline staged a street play and will enact the play in other areas of city.
Senior Labour Officer Manjula Devi, Programme Director Mallikarjun, Child Helpline Convenor Anil Kumar and others were present.
Autorickshaws went around the area in a jatha and distributed leaflets on anti-child labour. The exercise will be repeated in all areas for the next three days.
