Street plays create awareness on MNREGS at Bylakuppe

Mysuru: The Zilla Panchayat in association with the Information and Public Relations Department had recently organised street plays at Bylakuppe and Doddaharave Village in Periyapatna taluk of the district, to create awareness on MNREGS (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme).

Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) Shivayoga, speaking on the occasion, said that water is most essential for life and as such it should be used in a most judicious manner.

He pointed out that MNREGS is an ambitious scheme of the Union Government and every worker is paid a daily wage of Rs. 236. Stating that a total of 85,62,637 working days were generated in the district in the past four-and-a-half-year, he said that 2,06,643 families have got work and were paid Rs. 28,992.78 lakh under this scheme.

Seeking the co-operation of the public in building toilets in rural areas, Shivayoga reiterated that a daily wage of Rs. 236 will be paid to every worker under the scheme, irrespective of their gender and added that the wages will be directly credited to the respective Bank account of the beneficiaries.

Bylakuppe Gram Panchayat President Renukamma, Members Geetha, Devamma, Shankar, Saraswathi, Chandramma, Usharani and others were present.
