Street plays mark International Child Helpline Day in city

Mysuru: Street plays focussing on child safety, protection and rights marked International Child Helpline Day, jointly organised by Child Helpline Mysuru 1098, Rural Literacy and Health Programme (RLHP), ODP and Nisarga Foundation, in city recently.

Women and Child Welfare Department Deputy Director Radha launched the street plays at Gandhi Square.

More than 60 children from Shanthinagar and Kurimandi slums and RLHP took part in the plays that were performed at Nachanahalli Palya, Shanthinagar, Mandi Mohalla market and other places in city.

The play of 12-minute duration aimed at creating awareness on the importance of educating children besides spreading a message against pushing children to child labour, child marriages, atrocities against children, trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.

The plays also publicised Child Helpline No. 1098 by asking the members of the public to immediately call the free helpline whenever they come to know about crimes against children and their exploitation.

Child Protection Officer Nagaraj, Programme Co-ordinators Nagendra and Anil Kumar and others were present during the programme.
