Student among two persons duped of Rs. 11.39 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: In separate cases, a student and a woman have been cheated to the tune of Rs. 11,39,696 by online fraudsters.

In the first case, fraudsters have cheated a 24-year-old student of 2,000 pounds (about Rs. 1,85,696) on the pretext of getting him an accommodation in the United Kingdom (UK).

The student, who has been cheated is S. Jayanth, son of Shivaramegowda and a resident of Hinkal in city. Jayanth had applied for MS course in the UK and was looking for accommodation there when he came across an advertisement on Facebook about vacant rooms in the UK.

Jayanth then called the number posted in the advertisement and the person on the other end of the phone explained about the rooms and the facilities provided. Believing the fraudster, Jayanth transferred a total of 2,000 pounds, which is valued at about Rs. 1,85,696 in three phases. After transferring the money the third time, Jayanth did not receive any response and realising that he was taken for a ride, he has lodged a complaint at CEN Police Station.

In the second case, a miscreant, who came to be known through a social media platform has cheated a 24-year-old woman to the tune of Rs. 9.54 lakh after introducing her to another group on social media. The woman, who was cheated is Sushmitha R. Gopinath, a resident of SBM Colony in Srirampura 2nd Stage.

Sushmitha came to know about the miscreant identified as R. Sanketh on social media and Sanketh later introduced her to a group called STS Limited Co.in.

After getting registered, Sushmitha began to follow the instructions given to her and transferred a total of Rs. 9.54 lakh from her bank account.

As the money was not returned and she did not even receive any profits, she has lodged a complaint at city’s CEN Police Station.
