Student electrocuted

Periyapatna: A 13-year-old student was electrocuted, when he touched the power line, which was illegally drawn to supply power to a farm at Sampigekatte near Abbalati village in the taluk. The deceased boy is Manju, son of Poojary and a resident of B-Colony in Abbalati tribal hamlet.

Following Dasara holidays, Manju, a class seven student at Abbalati Girijana Ashrama School, had come to his house. 

On Satuday night, he (Manju), along with his classmates Ravi, Satish and Neelu, went to the farm of one Papanna at Sampigekatte, where Manju accidentally came in contact of the illegal power line and was electrocuted, according to Manju’s classmates, who were with him.

Periyapatna Sub-Inspector Ganesh and ASI Chikkanayaka inspected the spot. Meanwhile, the deceased boy’s parents and relatives staged a protest and demanded that the farm owner be summoned to the spot and action be taken against him.

Taluk Social Welfare Department Assistant Director Ramegowda, who was present during the post-mortem, consoled the family members of the deceased boy and the body was later handed over to the family members.

CESC Executive Engineer Kaleem has assured of taking legal action against the farm owner for drawing power illegally and a complaint has been lodged at Periyapatna Police Station in this regard.
