Students oppose NRI quota in Medical seats

Mysuru: Medical College students, under the aegis of All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO), staged a protest in front of the DC’s office here yesterday opposing the Government’s proposal to introduce NRI (Non-Residential Indian) quota in Medical seats and hiking the fees for Medical PG courses in Government Medical Colleges.

The students urged the Government to drop the proposal of introduction of 10% NRI quota mooted by the former Minister for Medical Education in the Assembly. They alleged that NRI quota would commercialise Medical education which was anti-Constitutional. They pointed out that bright meritorious students would be deprived of seats. They also contended that higher fees for PG courses was unscientific which also should be dropped.

District AIDSO Treasurer Asiya Begum, leaders Akash Kumar, Chandrakala and others led the protest.
