Mysuru: “Self-esteem is defined as an individual’s overall subjective emotional evaluation of his or her own worth and it is the decision made by an individual as an attitude towards the self,” said Dr. N. Prahallada, Associate Professor in Education (retd.), Regional Institute of Education (RIE).
He was delivering a special lecture on ‘How to develop Self-esteem?’ for the students of Law, as part of their orientation programme, organised by JSS Law College at the College auditorium here recently.
“Self-esteem, a feeling of recognition and a sense of worth, is an important human need. Self-esteem is our attitude to other people’s opinion about us. It gives us self-confidence. It can act as a catalyst to keep us active and not to be easily content with ourselves,” he said.
“Most of the problems in our life might be due to lack of self-esteem. But there are a few ways to improve self-esteem like not to judge other people. To judge others, is to put yourself in a place where you are thinking you are better than them, which is not a healthy self-esteem. Meditate every day. Being in silence with yourself improves your positive thinking. Do have a good sense of humour, this will boost better image of yourself, and celebrate your success everyday even if it is something that seems to be small,” said Dr. Prahallada.
As many as 180 students from BA LLB(Hons), BBA LLB (Hons) and LLB students attended the lecture. Prof. K.S. Suresh, Chief Executive, JSS Law College, Shivananda Bharathi, Nandini and others were present.
