Addanda C. Cariappa’s book ‘Gandhi Hatyeya Satya’ released; Play to be staged by Rangabhoomi Trust in city on Oct. 1 & 2
Mysuru: Ahead of the staging of the play ‘Gandhi Hatyeya Satya,’ written and directed by former Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa, a book of the same title was released at BSS Vidyodaya in Krishnamurthypuram yesterday.
The play will be staged at Mini Theatre in Kalamandira premises on Oct. 1 and 2.
The programme was organised by Rangabhoomi Trust, Kodagu. Founder of Sri Rama Sene Pramod Muthalik, littérateur Dr. S.R. Leela and other dignitaries released the book.
Speaking on the occasion, Muthalik said, people should study historical records to understand the circumstances and different aspects surrounding Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination. He said, writing books, staging plays and holding public discussions on sensitive historical issues required courage.
He urged people to examine the Court proceedings following Gandhi’s assassination and the statements made by Nathuram Godse. History, he said, should not be viewed from a single perspective but studied based on documented evidence.
Blame on Congress
Muthalik also criticised the Congress, alleging that the party was responsible for several tragic episodes, including the violence during the 1947 Partition, developments following Gandhi’s assassination in 1948, the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 and the displacement of Hindu families from the Kashmir Valley between 1986 and 1990.
Defending the RSS, he said, the organisation had faced criticism, bans and legal cases for nearly a century but had continued to uphold its ideology and create awareness in society.
Referring to historical figures such as Tipu Sultan and Aurangzeb, Muthalik said, their rule and religious policies should be examined on the basis of documented records.
He opposed what he described as the glorification of Tipu Sultan and said, historical personalities should be studied from multiple perspectives.
Dr. S.R. Leela said that the play effectively portrays the events surrounding Nathuram Godse, the Court proceedings and the social atmosphere of the period. She said, details of such historical events were once again entering public debate through books and social media.
Addanda Cariappa said, the younger generation should be made aware of historical facts without distortion or misinformation. The contributions and struggles of historical figures and their impact on society, could not be understood if history was presented from only one perspective, he said.
Aditya Adhikari Hospital Administrative Officer Dr. Chandrashekar, Chitpavan Sangha President Dinesh Chipulanakar, Hari Vidyalaya Secretary H.R. Bhagavan and Anita Cariappa were present.
