Sub-Inspector, Constable caught while accepting bribe

Mandya: The sleuths of Mandya Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), led by ACB Dy.SP Shailendra, have arrested a Sub-Inspector (SI) and a Constable while accepting bribe from a lorry owner to release his vehicle. The arrested have been identified as SI Suresh Kumar and Constable Venkatesh attached to Srirangapatna Town Police Station.

The incident: About three days ago, a lorry was transporting liquor from Nanjangud to Bhadravathi and the lorry had hit a bike near Srirangapatna. As it was not a major accident, the biker left the spot with his bike.

But the SI and the Constable, who had seen the mishap, took custody of the lorry and parked the lorry in the Police Station premises since Aug.20. Though no one had lodged a complaint and no case registered, the Cops had not left the lorry and had allegedly demanded Rs.15,000 bribe to release the lorry.

Depressed over the harassment for bribe, the lorry driver had lodged a complaint with ACB, following which the ACB sleuths laid a trap to catch the Cops red-handed. Accordingly, on Friday night, the ACB sleuths caught the SI and the Constable while they were accepting the bribe.
