Mysuru: Strongly condemning the serial maternal deaths in several District Hospitals across the State, members of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) staged a demonstration in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue in Town Hall premises here recently.
Addressing the protesters, SUCI District Secretary B. Ravi attributed the maternal deaths to lack of infrastructure in District Hospitals.
Alleging that the District Hospitals were short of ICUs, he maintained that in independent India, the healthcare of the people is the responsibility of the Government and as such, the Government should stand committed for ensuring good health care for all in keeping with social justice.
He also urged the Government to fill up all specialist doctor and paramedical staff vacancies in all State-run Hospitals of the district, supply quality medicines in adequate quantity to Government Hospitals, free quality healthcare to all patients, higher allocation of funds to the healthcare sector in Union and State budgets and to put an end to corruption, scams and other malpractices in the Health Department.
SUCI office-bearers Seema, Sandhya and others were present during the protest.
